Today, it has become all the more important to focus on preventive healthcare as it minimizes the burden of diseases and help nations tackling the rising burden of diet-related diseases.
India has a high burden of food borne disease, under-nutrition, and micronutrient deficiency. Almost 60 percent of deaths are caused by Non Communicable Diseases which means there is a high risk of blood pressure, heart diseases, obesity and diabetes in our country. Further, over 50% of children and women in their reproductive age are anaemic in put country.
We at Nayaatara Foundation aspire to build a sustainable, ethical and nutritious food system and a thriving local economy. To achieve our mission, we are working tirelessly to spread awareness and education about the role of important micronutrients in our body and how Food Fortification is considered as the best, easy, cost effective and a scalable strategy to deal with these issues.
Under this campaign, we organize (with support of our donors), training and awareness campaigns to impart basic training on food fortification to our front-line workers and food handlers from ICDS and Mid-day meal kitchens across districts (in various regions of the Northern India) along with free demonstration of cooked fortified food items like Biryani, Kheer etc using fortified rice, milk, wheat-flour, edible oil and double fortified salt.
With support of our partner officials from World Food Programme (WFP), we also organize regular training and capacity building efforts as well as mass awareness sessions on the benefits of fortified staples.
We seek support for covering high burden districts in the State of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and J&K and look forward to the support of interested donors/ companies as part of their CSR funds.
